Returns for Leukemia Bottle Drive

Description: Take part in Returns for Leukemia, the annual bottle drive event hosted by UFCW Local 12R24 and The Beer Store. Come on out May 25th and 26th to donate your empty beer, wine and spirit containers at any of The Beer Store’s 440 locations and you will be helping to fund a cure for blood cancers. Special Olympics Brantford: 25th Annual Bowl-a-Thon

Location: Echo Bowl, Brantford

Description: Special Olympics Ontario-Brantford is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to contributing to the social, physical and psychological development of people with intellectual disabilities through positive, successful experiences in sport. This event is our major fundraiser. The money raised in this event pays for the facilities, equipment and transportation that allows our Special Olympians the opportunity to participate in sports training and competition at the local, provincial and national level. Waterloo Air Show

June 1st-2nd 2013

Location: Waterloo International Airport

Description: Kick-start your summer by bringing the family to the 2013 Waterloo Air Show, June 1st and 2nd. The Canadian Forces Snowbirds will highlight amazing aerial displays of aerobatics, jets and warbirds – and pyro! New for 2013 will be a jet car screaming down the runway and an incredible wing walker. Aviation is showcased on the ground too with additional aircraft parked on the tarmac to get up close to, take photos and speak to the pilots. To round out the day, there will be aviation and community displays, kids activities, performer autographs, food and licensed areas. Bring your blankets, chairs and cameras out to the Region of Waterloo International Airport and pick your spot on the grass. There’s not a bad seat in the house when you’re looking skywards! The Canadian Cancer Society: Relay For Life

Location: Lion’s Park, Brantford

Time: 7pm-7am

Description: Relay For Life is an inspirational, non-competitive, 12-hour overnight fundraising event that brings you and your community together to celebrate life and fight cancer. Relay has a festival-like atmosphere that your family, friends and co-workers can enjoy regardless of age or fitness level. Teams of 10-15 people fundraise individually and as a team to help the Canadian Cancer Society save lives and support those who are facing cancer. Relay participants make a commitment to raise at least $100 and are supported with the tools to reach their goals. At Relay, teams gather with cancer survivors at their local track, stadium or sports field and take turns walking laps all night. Each team keeps at least one member on the track at all times, while all around them the party is in full swing. Teams stay overnight in the decorated tent city, united to enjoy music, food, activities and entertainment and to celebrate life. For more information visit www.cancer.ca.
